Meeting of the waters

Meeting of the waters in Santarem is the best tour to see sweet water dolphins, the fish market, the cathedral and many others attractions.

In front of the city of Santarem there is the meeting of two giants with an impressive image and one of the most beautiful and surprising phenomena of nature between the Amazon and Tapajos rivers, known as “Meeting of the waters in Santarem”.

Itinerary

This spectacle can be observed daily from a certain distance, including from the riverfront of Santarem. However, it is better to get very close to observe, as the scenery is really stunning, so much so that some of our clients lose control (in a good way, of course) and even jump in the water to feel it in their skin the difference between the two rivers. In one of these opportunities, we heard that “it is simply a wonderful sensation, because the water in the Amazon is denser, as if it is heavier and hotter, whereas the Tapajos water is lighter and colder”. So, do you want to try it?

Selvagem Tours specializes in personalizing your trips, always looking for quality and, for this reason, our tour to the “Meeting of the waters in Santarem” consists of the following itinerary:

Right away, our tour in Alter do Chao explores the wonderful Green lake, composed of 14 springs, among which we find the (***) Enchanted Forest, a place worthy of our first stop to swim in a crystal-clear aquarium with countless fish, in addition to taking a beautiful canoe ride amid the submerged trees in a scenario like those of wild films, where we have the chance to watch birds and, with a little luck, even monkeys and sloths on the island of Tilheiro.

Well, now you will visit the Love Island, sailing slowly on both sides of a beach very well frequented by most of the people who visit this region. In the passage, you will see the native tents and our extensive beaches. We will also see the Piraoca Mountain from inside the boat, a prominent geographical point, which at the top provides a fantastic 360-degree view of the region.

Piranhas Lake and Curucu beach

We will continue passing by the Piranhas Lake (what a fear!) With real piranhas of various sizes, stopping farther down at Cururu beach, a traditional crossing point, safe for a refreshing dip directly in the waters of the Tapajos River, in a stunning setting. Take the opportunity to record these moments, because it is worth it!

We will continue to Moça beach, our favorite stop, where we will have a delicious beach picnic with fresh fruits: watermelon, pineapple, banana, passion fruit, orange, apple and coconut. Another beautiful scenery for photos, maybe walking on the beach of white sand or playing on giant rocks and swimming on a beach that looks like the sea.

Crocodile Lake and Rock tip beach

We will then sail to the Crocodile Lake and beach, one of the most beautiful lakes in the region, where nature is still in balance and harmony with otters, alligators, turtles and a lot of beauty. You will have a few minutes of peace in this beautiful lake to reflect on the beautiful stops we made during the day (note: one of the sets of the children’s film TAINÁ III, more precisely the scene of the final battle in the film, was on the shores of the Crocodile lake).

There’s more, much more! Now, we arrive at the wonderful Rock tips beach, which has visual uniqueness, combining beauty and tranquility to have lunch and rest on the beach before crossing the Tapajos River for our main attractions. If you want, we can also have lunch at Saulo´s home, a tourist reference when it comes to the region’s restaurant, on top of a hill, looking out over the beautiful Tapajos River.

After having lunch and taking several photos, we will sail passing by the Tapari lake, before proceeding to our main attraction. Get ready!

“Voilá”! Your motorboat or boat will be right on top of the famous Meeting of the Waters in Santarem, where we will be able to appreciate the beauty of this natural phenomenon, observing the edge of the city of Santarem, possibly witnessing porpoises (freshwater dolphins) in pink and gray colors swimming side by side. If you want, you can feel the difference of both rivers by diving directly into the “Meeting of the waters in Santarem. Just jump!

We will return to Alter do Chao with many unforgettable images, recalling all the beauties we enjoyed during the day.
